Another foreign company, Nextbit launched its cloud based smartphone Robin into the Indian smartphone market; which is already crammed with affluence of smartphones to choose. Whatever brand you wish to pick should have features like.
• A great eye catching display.
• Packed with a high and smooth processing speed and RAM.
• Backed with atleast all-day-long battery power for ease of multitasking.
• Batter image capturing and video recording.
Yes! I have missed many points! But this article is not about what’s best for you it is about what best in Nextbit, Robin . So, lets get back to the business!
Robin offers a 5.2 inch 1920×1080P IPS display with 424 ppi which seems bright and crisp clean with clear viewing angles. Handset design is elegant and you will fall in love with it. Available in two colors; mint and midnight. On the right side you will find a power button incorporating a fingerprint scanner and a nano sim slot. Volume control is placed in left side and a USB-C charging port in bottom for fast charging. It’s a 150gm in weight with a Nextbit logo and cloud symbol (that depict it’s handy cloud feature aligned with four led lights) embedded in the back. Dual front facing stereo speakers in front with quality sound and smartphone is protected by gorilla glass 4.
Cloud storage and process
Robin gives you a additional 100 GB cloud storage over 32 GB internal memory and keep unused apps and user data stored in cloud. It automatically start backing up apps and photos when you don’t use them for a while (there is a particular folder for pinning the apps that you don’t want to archived). And can be re-downloaded from the cloud. The backed up apps appears gray in colour in home screen and free up useful space for other stuff. App offloading from cloud works fine with wifi and 4G network. Though 3G acts slow in retrieving apps. Notably, Robin doesn’t back up your video content.
Software performance
Snapdragon 808 chip and 3GB of RAM along with Android 6.0, marshmallow makes Robin fast enough for heavy multitasking. Loading and high graphics game experience is piece of cake with Adreno 418 and new 1.5 GHz hexacore Qualcomm snapdragon 808 chip. And NFC with Bluetooth 4.0 LE provide smooth sharing.
Camera and image/video quality
Robin pact with a 13 MP rear camera with phase detection auto focus and dual tone flash and a engaging 1080HD video recording. Front facing camera loaded with 5MP. Image clearity is good in HDR or non-HDR mode. Manual mode give you control over ISO, AF and exposure except shutter speed. Not promising… though, you can click great close shots with detailing.
Nextbit Robin powered with 2680 MHz battery; that is its biggest drawback. Where other same price segment handsets give on average 12 hour backup ; Robin exceeds only 10 hours (according to CNET‘s battery review).
Whether you like it or not it’s up to you, but for me 100 GB storage (expendable on request), always available onboard internal space and a design-to-brag; it’s like a mini computer with compact design, performance and storage capacity that overshadows it’s flaws (less battery backup and camera). Robin clearly going to stay for long and will return (hopefully) with revamp features and pros.
